Falbala spiky backseam hold ups – review

Falbala

Ooooh. I love the spiky backseam on these hold ups and couldn’t resist treating myself to a pair.

Would they snag with a bit of activity though, if I kept them on in bed? “Fear not,” says Karen Kane of Falbala who does the embellishments by hand. “The spikes aren’t sharp so there’s no worry about easily snagging them and we have used strong black stockings.

“They are a hardy specimin… Punk is one of my favourite looks and I couldn’t resist incorporating this key trend into our A/W13 legwear collection.”

They arrived wrapped in tissue paper inside a small black box and naturally I couldn’t wait to cop a feel. The spikes are rounded so I see what she means about non-snagging. I’m quite tall and usually buy larger tights for a more comfortable fit and these come just over the knee, which is a bit lower than I’d like but they are 60 denier and once on they stay in place. I’ve learned to put them on slowly – getting the foot seam in place is paramount otherwise the spikes sit too low at the back of your shoe (I had heeled brogues on) and you can feel them when you walk.

In short, I love them and I’ve had tons of compliments on them. They aren’t everyday wear (hand wash only – though I did accidentally put them in the washer and they came out fine…) Still, I don’t want them to shrink.
