Drinking pomegranate juice can pep up your libido, according to a study by Mindlab International at the University of Sussex.
Researchers asked 14 couples to do different things after drinking various fruit juices, including kissing and looking at erotica. Brainwaves, eye movement and skin sensation were monitored. The couples who drank pomegranate juice were found to have stronger sexual interest and kissed more passionately than the other couples. Both sexes benefited but the effects were more noticeable in the men.
Previous studies have shown that pomegranate juice can help reduce the risk of heart disease and prostate cancer in men, but researchers didn’t anticipate the libido link. “We thought that the pomegranate might produce a different effect on mind and body to the other two juices since its health benefits are widely known and have been intensively studied”, says Duncan Smith, who led the research team. “This year alone, for example, there have been almost twenty clinical trials assessing the beneficial effects of drinking pomegranate.’
Pomegranate juice provides vitamin C, vitamin B5, potassium and antioxidant polyphenols, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure and strengthen the immune system.
Worth getting a few cartons in, this Christmas, as well as the bubbly and mistletoe.
